The Arizona General Education Curriculum (AGEC) is a 32–35-credit block of lower-division general education courses designed for students transferring within Arizona’s public higher education system.

When a student completes the AGEC at an Arizona public community or tribal college, the curriculum transfers as a block to Arizona State University, Northern Arizona University, the University of Arizona, and other Arizona public community and tribal colleges. This means the student’s lower-division general education requirements are considered complete upon transfer.

Completing the AGEC:

• Fulfills lower-division general education requirements at Arizona’s public universities
• Allows the completed curriculum to transfer as a block without loss of credit
• Helps students avoid having individual general education courses evaluated separately after transfer
• Supports an efficient pathway toward completing an associate and bachelor’s degree
• Provides assured general admission to ASU, NAU and U of A for students who also earn a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5

Assured admission applies to the university—not necessarily to a particular degree program. Some majors have additional admission requirements, prerequisites or lower-division courses that students must complete.

Beginning with the 2026 catalog year, Arizona offers one unified AGEC rather than the previous AGEC-A, AGEC-B and AGEC-S options. Students select courses within the AGEC that support their intended major and transfer institution.

The AGEC includes 32–35 credits distributed across the following areas:

Specific requirements and course options may vary by college, degree program and transfer destination. All courses applied to the AGEC must be completed with a grade of C or better.

Students should work with an academic advisor to select AGEC courses that align with their intended major and university. Although the AGEC fulfills lower-division general education requirements, it does not replace major prerequisites, program admission requirements or other courses required for a bachelor’s degree.

Once all requirements are completed, students should make sure their college certifies the AGEC on their official transcript.

Students following a catalog year prior to 2026 may still be eligible to complete the previous AGEC-A, AGEC-B or AGEC-S. An academic advisor can help students determine whether completing the earlier curriculum or transitioning to the unified AGEC provides the most efficient path toward their degree and transfer goals.
